The present India is nothing but a piece of shit. And there is no denying that fact. The politics, the government, the bureaucracy, the judiciary, the press, the system, and the economy - all have gone down the drains. And if we see realistically it surely will take another 500 years for India to be called a developed country on the international map. That is one of my honest predictions too. Ignoring this hard hitting truth, Indians take a lot of gratification in being proud of her culture. I took some time to analyse, what Indian culture actually is.
"India is a peace loving country. And in 5000 years of history, India has never invaded other countries."
Very true. India was 16 princely states all ruled by different Kings. We were so busy fighting among ourselves that we never got any time to invade other nations. It was the Moghuls who won over Indian Kings, and formed India and called her Hindusthan.
"Indians are the most tolerant people."
Mahatma Gandhi who was kept alive by the Englishmen for decades together was killed by an Indian within 1 year after independence.
Demolition of Babri Masjid is the latest example of our tolerance.
"We choose to be violent only when our Hindu religion is at stake."
We are subjected only to the atrocities of Muslims on Hindus through our history books. But we cannot ignore the fact that lakhs of people were killed on the basis of different belief systems - amongst Hindus themselves. Shivaites have demolished many Vaishnav temples, and Vaishnavites have demolished enough Shiva temples. Not only that - Shivaites have killed enough Vaishnavites, and Vaishnavites have killed enough Shivaites. The cold war prevails even today.
"No it is not about Gods we boast. It is about the system."
Child marriage, sathi, and narbali were part of Indian culture. They are criminal offence now.
"We stick to one partner."
'One man one woman' was never a part of Indian culture. And no Hindu scriptures say that a man should marry only one woman. It was Hindu Marriage Act formulated by the Indian government in 1950s, which restricted men from marrying more than one woman.
Do we really stick to one partner? Or we lie about it all through our lives?!
"We believe in arranged marriage and joint families."
99 per cent of the movies made in India are about people falling in love and getting married. And also 99 per cent of the Indians aspire for a love marriage. In spite of that majority of the marriages in India are arranged because - with age people are left with no choice but to compromise.
Joint family? When was the last time you saw more than 5 people living under the same roof?
"We look after our children and also our aging parents."
Even animals looks after their young ones till they are ready to be on their own. And looking after aging parents was never part of Indian culture. Aged parents were supposed to take sanyas, and walk away leaving behind the younger generation in peace to attain moksha. These days, it the post 60s who flock the multiplexes!
"We wear saree, have long hair, and keep bindi."
Mini blouse and bras were never part of Indian culture - they are 20th century inventions. Centuries back Indian woman wore sarees in a way that - they never looked erotic, and least flesh was visible. Today saree is considered to be a sexy wear, and wearing them is an opportunity for the woman to flash their naval and boobs!
Long hair is history, and bindis don't go well with jeans!
"Taj Mahal shows how artistic Indians are"
Taj Mahal, which proves to be one of the marvels amongst international crowd, was Moghul's idea and not Indian's.
"We boast about the temples we have built"
True. Good architecture is also found in Rome, Greece and Egypt. The only difference between them and India is - they take good care about their monuments, and we Indians don't. We spit inside the temple, and we shit outside the temple.
"We are proud about our cuisine"
Eating habits primarily depended upon what gets produced in a particular country in a particular weather. We eat more spice, because spice grows more in India. What is there to be proud about?
"We are the one who invented astrology and ayurveda"
We still are waiting for an approval from the 'white skinned' people to believe in Indian astrology - because it is not scientific according to them. And we stopped using ayurveda the moment the Britisher said it is fake in the 19th Century.
Even today Ayurveda is used as the last resort in India, which in fact happens to be a multimillion business in US.
"We have written Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana and Mahabharatha"
We are so busy with Newton, Einstein, and Edison at school, that we are never subjected to our own works. Who reads Vedas and Upanishads anyways?
So what we are left with is a huge vacuum in the name of Indian culture, which we always are proud about!
