I came across an interesting Instagram reel where Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev attempts to explain astrology to a beautiful woman. Their exchange went like this:
Juggi – Is that rock more potent, or this human being more potent?
Woman – This human.
Juggi – Human consciousness is far more potent. So should that rock influence you, or should you influence the rock?
Woman – I should influence the rock.
Juggi – Should that rock determine your destiny, or should you determine the destiny of the rock?
Woman – I should, I should.
Juggi – Planets and stars are just rocks. You determine their destiny; they don’t determine yours.
It’s always an ego boost for the tiny human mind to believe life is a puzzle that free will can solve. But if, after an entire lifetime, you still haven’t realized you had no control over anything that happened, it only means you haven’t evolved at all in this life.
Now here’s the irony: all major Hindu festivals and rituals are observed on specific dates deemed auspicious or inauspicious solely based on planetary positions (or “rocks,” as Juggi calls them). This includes those performed at the Isha Foundation itself. Why, saar? You could just as well dance for your audience on Amavasya (no-moon day) instead of the 14th night (Chaturdashi) of the Krishna Paksha in the lunar month of Phalguna, right? After all, the moon is just a piece of rock—one that, apparently, has no effect on Earth, not even on the tides. 🙂
I get it—you’re in the business of spirituality, and admitting that not everyone can attain spiritual growth would shrink your following. But why drag Vedic Astrology into your discourse when you’re not a master of the subject? If you were truly enlightened, you’d recognize that it wasn’t your free will but your destiny that carried you from being a successful businessman to becoming a successful godman.
