Recently, I received a well-articulated mail from a LinkedIn contact asking for an astrological consultation. The mail was impressive — full of clarity, respect, and confidence. Out of curiosity, I glanced at his date of birth. 2005.
2005? That makes him just 20 years old.
In my 22 years as a professional astrologer, I’ve never had a direct client who was 20 — and there are reasons for that.
Despite being the grandson of a Tamil astrologer and the son of an engineer who knew a fair share of astrology, I myself was a non-believer until I turned 25. My real faith in astrology began only after meeting an astrologer who — in a matter of minutes — made me feel like a fool. He read my life from a few square boxes as though it were written on my forehead. That day changed everything for me.
But here’s the truth: I don’t consult anyone below 25. Two simple reasons.
1. They can’t afford me.
2. They don’t need me.
When you’re 20, you’re high on confidence. You think you can conquer the world without brakes or boundaries. College results are fresh — the toppers are snapped up, the average students find their way, and the dropouts convince themselves they’re the next Bill Gates. With credit cards, fast internet, blasting AC, and a paycheck — who needs astrology?
Between 20 and 30, almost everyone believes hard work will automatically make them a millionaire. But then 30 arrives — quietly, like a thief in the night.
Thirty is when humans start to really think.
• Why haven’t I reached where I imagined I would?
• What’s stopping me?
• Am I making mistakes, or is something else at play?
That’s when you begin to realise you aren’t free. Something holds you back. Something invisible resists your wings. That “something” is destiny — and a 20-year-old doesn’t need to know it yet.
As expected, the young man wrote back saying he couldn’t afford me. Which was good. Because astrology is not for the young; it is for those who have lived enough to understand that life doesn’t bend to your will.
