This particular blog is in the wake of a 17-year-old drunk kid killing 2 people while driving his Porsche in India.
RTO (Regional Transport Office or Road Transport Office) is one of the most corrupt systems in India, and there always has been a great competition to get government jobs in this particular sector for obvious reasons. Right from getting a license, FC (fitness certificate for vehicles), to breaking the traffic rules – you just need some extra money and you will remain safe forever.
I remember an incident that took place a couple of years back where in few uneducated idiots, close to 20 in number, tried crossing an unmanned railway crossing without noticing the red signal. The fast moving train rammed into them killing them all. The train pilot, out of good will, put the brake to stop the train and a mob caught hold of him and beat him to death! These assholes had no idea about whose mistake it was, and had the pilot put the brake before ramming onto the dead motherfuckers – he would have killed more people travelling by the train.
150 crore population, and you will find a minimum of 50 uneducated assholes every 2 kms in India. And these idiotic motherfuckers have their own logic of punishing the people who meet with an accident.
Here is a ready reckoner for any foreigner who wants to visit India and drive in the country, and how the mob will behave and react in case of an accident – (the punishment is beyond logic, irrespective of whose mistake it is, and is delivered before the cops arrive)
When a bicycle bumps onto a pedestrian – the cyclist is at fault even if the pedestrian jumps in front of the bicycle deliberately. The mob won’t hit the bicyclist because by culture they think a man who rides a bicycle is poor.
When two bicycles bump into each other – even if it is fatal, the mob won’t bother to hit anyone as two poor people bumped into each other. They will call the ambulance, take care of the cyclists.
When a low end two wheeler bumps into a pedestrian/cyclist – the mob will help the pedestrian/cyclist, and warn the rider as he is still poor because he/she is riding a 50 cc motorbike.
When two low end two wheeler bumps into each other – even if it is fatal, the mob won’t react much. They will help the riders as both belong to the same social status.
When a high end motor bike bumps into a pedestrian – the biker is at fault by the rule of our Indian culture. The mob will snatch the bike key, start hitting the biker on the head even if he is wearing a helmet. The amount of hitting depends on how much the pedestrian is hurt.
When two high end motor bikes bump into each other – the mob won’t hit anyone. It is always the bike riders who hit each other, abuse each other, and walk away after a while. If someone is hit badly, the mob will help both the riders because people of same status met with an accident.
When a low end car rams a pedestrian/bicycle/motorbike – the car owner is at fault, because cars are owned by rich people and pedestrian/cyclist are always considered to be poor in India. As far as bikers are concerned, if the low end car rams into a low end motorbike – the car owner is at fault – the mob will take the car key away, and hit the driver of the car.
In another scenario if a low end car rams into high end bikes – the mob usually don’t interfere until and unless it is fatal. But none gets hit by the mob in this particular case.
When two low end cars bump into each other – Usually the mob ignores the scene, and the car owners yell at each other and leave after a while. If it is fatal, the mob will call the ambulance and do the needful.
If by chance one of them is a lady driver, and she is hit more badly than the other driver – there is a strong possibility that the mob will hit the male driver.
If two lady drivers bump into each other – the mob ignores them most of the times.
When a high end car rams into a pedestrian/cyclist/low end biker/high end biker/low end car/high end car – The car driver is at fault and the mob will take the car key away, make the high end car driver to park the vehicles on the side, and after feeling the energy of the driver they will start hitting or breaking the car.
If the driver of the car is just a driver and not the owner of the high end car, then there is a possibility that he won’t get hit because he is poor.
If two high end cars ram into each other, the mob ignores them completely as two motorists of equal status have met with an accident and they know how to deal with it.
When a truck rams into a pedestrian/cyclist/low end bike/high end bike/low end car/high end car – the truck driver is at fault even if he is poor. Hence most of the times whenever a truck rams into anything, the driver and the cleaner jump off the vehicle and run away and are never to be seen.
When a government owned bus rams into pedestrian/cyclist/low end bike/high end bike/low end car/high end car – the bus driver is at fault, but then the mob don’t hit the driver as he is a government employee. The mob for once understands that it is a legal issue, and the cops are assigned to deal with the situation.
When a private bus rams into a pedestrian/cyclist/low end bike/high end bike/low end car/high end car – the bus driver is at fault, and the mob will hit the bus driver for sure.
If a truck rams into a truck or if a bus rams into a bus – the mob is a bit confused here. They don’t hit anyone, but suddenly convert into good samaritans and help the injured.
In my personal opinion the citizens don’t pay vehicle taxes, road taxes, and insurances to be harassed by these uneducated assholes whiling away their time at every junction of the road.
The dictionary meaning of accident is ‘an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss; casualty; mishap’. Accidents happen, and there is the whole legal department to deal with it, why the fuck do unruly mob get involved in it in India? A mob cannot get into someone’s house and start hitting housewives just because they left the cylinder on – it is an accident.
I am in no way involved in law making business, but if I were then I would have cut water connection and electricity connection for 2.5 km around the spot where an unruly mob is involved in a road accident. The problem will be solved in one day.
