Can You Really Escape Pain?

Human life is designed to experience three kinds of pain — physical, mental, and spiritual.

Physical pain is the most obvious. You trip, you fall, you get hit, you fall ill — you feel it instantly. There’s no real escape… except there is. Humans invented painkillers. They mute the pain, but where does the pain actually go? It doesn’t disappear — it transforms. It hides in side effects that quietly damage other parts of the body and resurface later. So the pain isn’t gone; it’s just wearing a different mask.

Mental pain has no instant escape. When a lover leaves you, when someone close dies, when a partner cheats, when life’s timing mocks your expectations — this is when mental pain hits.

You can treat physical pain with rest and medication, but mental pain needs a different cure. And in most societies, humans are never trained to face it. So even if someone appears physically fine, they might be carrying years of unresolved mental pain.

Psychology, astrology, religion, spirituality — these can help. But if they’re used for escapism, the pain doesn’t vanish; it merely gets buried under layers of “positive” delusion.

Spiritual pain is the deepest — and the most dangerous. It’s the pain that follows you through lifetimes. The soul knows right from wrong perfectly well, but the mind bargains with instant pleasure. Imagine a woman who sleeps with 20 men before marriage, then marries as if he’s her first. She may feel no physical or mental pain, no regrets at all. Yet the unacknowledged dissonance sits in her spirit. It will surface not during her happiest moments, but on her deathbed — when the mirror is only herself, and no one’s left to justify or excuse her actions. The same applies to those who kill and escape justice, or cheat others deliberately.

This is why, in esoteric traditions, purity of soul is the highest virtue. Not because of social rules, but because the spirit remembers everything, even when the mind forgets.

So the question remains — how do you heal your mental and spiritual wounds without escapism, without residue?
