I’ve made my share of mistakes.
This one happened during my early days as a professional Vedic Astrologer — a time when I was still eager to prove myself to the world. Back then, people would often ask for a free reading just to “test” my ability.
And I would happily oblige, thinking, Not today, but someday they’ll come back as paying clients… maybe even bring a few friends along.
The Encounter
I remember meeting a man at a spiritual gathering. A friend of mine introduced me as an astrologer, and as always, the conversation drifted toward astrology.
At one point, he said rather casually,
“No one can predict human life accurately.”
Now, in those days, I took such statements personally — as if someone had challenged not just my skill, but the very subject my great father had invented (which of course he didn’t).
So I immediately replied,
“Give me your birth details, and I’ll disprove you right here, right now.”
If someone said the same thing to me today, after 22 years in this profession, I’d probably just smile and say,
“You’re probably right.”
While quietly thinking,
Yeah, motherf*er — and I’m the fool who made a career out of it.
The Proof
Anyway, he gave me his birth details. I cast his horoscope on the spot and started reading.
From his troubled marriage to a bike accident he once had — I predicted everything with uncanny accuracy. He was visibly impressed. We parted ways that evening, and I remember feeling quite proud of myself.
That was 20 years ago.
He never came back. Not for another reading. Not even with a single friend.
We’re still connected on Facebook, though — and every time I scroll past one of his updates, I realize his life hasn’t strayed far from what I told him that day.
The Lesson
So what’s the takeaway here?
Free samples never work in your favor.
When people get something for free, they rarely value it — no matter how accurate, insightful, or transformative it may be.
Just a few days ago, someone asked me the same question again:
“Why don’t you offer a free reading so I can trust you?”
And this time, I replied calmly,
“Go through my testimonials (https://askenni.com/testimonials/). If that doesn’t convince you, nothing else will.”
